Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.)
Prized for its distinctive and striking colour, as well as its strength, durability, and resistance to decay, purpleheart is a popular choice for furniture, musical instruments and decorative items.
American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)
A range of square edge boards.
Heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Colour can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Sapwood is pale yellow-grey to nearly white. Figured grain patterns such as curl, crotch, and burl are also seen.
It would be hard to overstate black walnut’s popularity among woodworkers, Its good working characteristics, coupled with its rich brown coloration puts the wood in a class by itself among temperate-zone hardwoods. To cap it off, the wood also has good dimensional stability, shock resistance, and strength properties.
European Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)
With its pale creamy-yellow colouring and lustrous grain pattern, sycamore is becoming ever more popular. Sycamore is fairly easy to work with and is used for veneer, boxes, musical instruments, turned objects, and other small specialty wood items.
