Sustainably sourced timber beams and structures

We have been cutting and selling timber beams for over 155 years, since WL West’s father was a young man!

Sawn from green (fresh-sawn) or air-dried European Oak logs, WL West Timber offers beam components, brace cutting and jowl post cutting. We have our own strength graders trained to grade oak to BS5756. For larger order quantities, we can arrange a direct delivery from our oak suppliers in France. Homegrown Douglas Fir, from a responsibly managed neighbouring estate in West Sussex, is also available for certain applications.

For restoration work, where it is important to limit any shrinkage, we stock air-dried oak beams for scarfing in repairs. Air-dried beams are more stable, as shrinkage has occurred over the years of air drying in our yard. We stock beams in a limited variety of sizes and it is always advisable to call to check availability. We can normally locate your required sizes if we do not have them in stock.

A timber structure can be swiftly erected, saving time and money on your building project. We offer standard structures in the form of ‘pergola or gazebo kits’. Bespoke timber frames to meet your specification are also available through our extensive experience of structural timber selection, milling and grading.
