Green Oak Beams 100mm x 125mm

from £40.84

The traditional choice for timber framed buildings, green (fresh sawn) oak beams are freshly cut from the log. They have a high moisture content and are easier to work with than air dried oak, which is very hard and can blunt tools. It is also easier to cut joints and peg holes when oak is freshly cut, before cracks have appeared in the wood.

Green oak beams have great strength and durability. They have high resistance to decay and are maintenance free - no chemical treatments are required. Our sustainable oak is sourced from responsibly-managed woodlands in France and we produce all our beams onsite at our Sussex sawmill, ensuring consistently high quality. The beams dry slowly and adjust naturally, so they should be used where some movement and shrinkage is permitted.

Grade and Finish: Our structural green oak beams are QP1 grade with a sawn finish.

Size:

  • Please note it is standard industry practice to supply timber marginally overlength so the beam can to be cut down to size on site.

  • Sawn beams have a tolerance of 5mm.

  • Beams are fresh sawn when supplied so they will gradually shrink slightly in the width and thickness and the surface will split and crack over time.

  • If you need custom beam sizes, please contact our Sales Team (sales@wlwest.co.uk) for a quote.

Lead Time: Our usual lead time is 4-5 working days.

Pricing: Price is inclusive of VAT. Delivery costs are calculated separately depending on location.

Delivery:

  • We deliver across the Southeast - click here for full details.

  • Oak beams are very heavy, so please take this into consideration when arranging delivery. Ensure there is good, clear access to the site for our lorry and that you have the appropriate equipment and personnel to manage unloading, which might require more than one person.

NOTE: The images shown are indicative of the items we have in stock but as this is a natural product there will be variations from beam to beam.

About Green Oak Beams

  • A green oak beam is something special – beautiful, tactile, strong, and durable. Timber framed buildings are more popular than ever as they are recognised as being a more environmentally-friendly and a more sustainable method of construction for homes, garages, barns and garden buildings.

  • Our oak is sourced from well-managed woodlands in Europe and, if required, we can source timber with chain of custody certification.

  • Green oak is fresh sawn and will have a high moisture content. It is easier to work than air dried oak, and in oak framed buildings will shrink and tighten the joints as it matures.

  • Our beam sections are generally cut to order for your projects.
